Election debate The City Chooses

One week before the municipal elections, Lokaal, Operator, N8W8 R'dam and the Maassilo are bringing politics into the city with The City Chooses: the public election debate on (night) culture, housing and safety.

Location:                             Maassilo, Rotterdam
Date:                              Wednesday, 11 March 2026 19:00 - 22:00
Confirmed parties:   16 electable political parties
Capacity:                       1,000 visitors

On Wednesday 11 March, sixteen eligible political parties will debate three themes that directly affect the daily lives of Rotterdammers: (night)culture, housing and safety. Themes that do not exist separately, but together determine how accessible, liveable and inclusive Rotterdam is; by day and by night.

Politics you want to be a part of

N8W8 R'dam, Lokaal, Operator and Maassilo are organising De Stad Kiest from a clear conviction: political involvement grows when politics is recognisable, concrete and close by. Not in abstract policy papers, but in places where the city comes together. The Maassilo - deeply embedded in Rotterdam's nightlife and cultural landscape - is therefore the setting for a substantively sharp but accessible debate.

The programme combines political confrontation with urban culture. Clear statements, real dilemmas and room for public participation ensure that differences become visible and choices tangible. No campaign language, but clear positions on how parties view space for culture, affordable housing and safety in the city.

The city chooses. The question is: who listens?
